- School Escort Model Design School dropoff-pickup model.pptx
- RSG to write-up an implementation for school pick-up/drop-off.
- RSG to look at the number of instances for non-auto school escorting, assess feasibility and implications of allowing tour/trip mode choice to change after tour formation for school escorting.
- RSG to look into sharrow before putting too much effort into pre-processing.
The school drop-off/pickup model allows drivers and children to be linked by direction. There are two type of school escorting:
- Pure = purpose of tour is escort
- Ride-share = tour purpose of the driver is work or school but stops made on that tour to pick up/drop off children This type of travel is a pretty significant number of trips, approximately 24% of shared ride.
A few things about this model:
- Applicable to all kids with a school tour
- When alternatives are formed, they are formed for up to two drivers (all driving adults in the house could be considered a driver) and up to three children in the household. The requirements for school escorting include:
- Children have to have a school tour.
- Driver has to have an activity in DAP
- For ride-share school escorting, the driver has to have a work/school mandatory tour
- The current implementation is only for auto trips, there is no school escorting for other modes (such as transit). These tours skip mode choice.
