Annoying progress monitor when creating a file

Start the editor with an empty workspace.
Create a new application.
Use Cmd-N to create a new file.
Give the file a short name, and type Return to dismiss it. This should be done within a few seconds to reproduce the problem.
A cray complex progress monitor appears insisting I wait to do anything until it finishes. See attached screen shot.
The editor is unusable until the builder and indexer complete, and allow the modal New File dialog to be dismissed. This could take a long time, if an existing large application had been opened (instead of create a new one).

It isn't clear to me that the dialog should go away. We should definitely work on performance to reduce the probability that the dialog will appear, but in my opinion having the editor not work without any apparent reason would be even worse than the dialog.

Do we believe that the problem is likely to go away if we ship pre-compiled indices?

If it does, then probably don't let's worry too much about it. I have a few of concerns:

1. The work flow is very disrupted very early on, by something that the user is unlikely to understand - we could simplify the dialog
2. Many IDEs have to do the index, but still allow users to use the tool whilst the index is occurring, by gracefully degrading the features. Can we do the same thing?
3. The dialog can be quite flashy, appearing and then vanishing again. Things disappearing from the screen before the user can read them is very disruptive.

so -- not necessarily saying it should go away, but could we try? Could we do graceful degradation, or ship with precompiled indices?

This problem won't go away with pre-compiled indices but it will occur much less often. The root of the problem is a modal dialog box that isn't dismissed before the builder starts. Apparently that wasn't obvious in the original description. I have to disagree about this issue being a request for an enhancement; it should be easy to fix by getting rid of the dialog before rebuilding the world. Once the dialog is dismissed the work that needs to be done is comparable to that which is done when a file is saved.
