The socket-option IP_RECVERR forces sockets to report soft errors to the application. With MPTCP, this reporting ends up in mptcp_sock_def_error_report, closing the socket. That's not really what we want. soft-errors are not really a concern for the subflows. We can simply continue. So, we should unset IP_RECVERR on subflows, so that they do not report the error. Longterm, we should probably define when soft errors need to be reported back to the application in case MPTCP is being used. As the new x86 CPU bootup printout format code maintainer, I am taking immediate action to improve and clean (and thus indulge my OCD) the reporting of the cores when coming up online. dlpar_online_cpu() attempts to online all threads of a core that has been added to an LPAR. If onlining a non-primary thread fails (e.g. due to an allocation failure), the core is left with at least one thread online. dlpar_cpu_add() attempts to roll back the whole operation, releasing the core back to the platform. commit 7c6986a upstream. In raise_backtrace_ipi() we iterate through the cpumask of CPUs, sending each an IPI asking them to do a backtrace, but we don't wait for the backtrace to happen. We then iterate through the CPU mask again, and if any CPU hasn't done the backtrace and cleared itself from the mask, we print a trace on its behalf, noting that the trace may be "stale". This works well enough when a CPU is not responding, because in that case it doesn't receive the IPI and the sending CPU is left to print the trace. But when all CPUs are responding we are left with a race between the sending and receiving CPUs, if the sending CPU wins the race then it will erroneously print a trace. IP_RECVERR forces TCP to report any kind of error to the app (e.g., receiving an ICMP Dest-unreach). sk_error_report is called in tcp_v4_err.
With MPTCP, this will trigger the sending of a subflow-FIN (the socket has not been tcp_done'd). This is incorrect behavior.
We probably should not even close the subflow, and only report an error to the app if all subflows are in an error-state.
