@cwperks could you please bump the core version to 2.9.0-SNAPSHOT as well please?

 opensearch_version = System.getProperty("opensearch.version", "2.9.0-SNAPSHOT")

There's an auto PR for a version increment to 2.9 open, but it is currently blocked by missing 2.9.0 minimum distribution. I can incorporate those changes into this PR if there's build issues with the automatic version bump PR.
