Other Features
Camping gear and campfires will align with the ground when placed, while certain parts of the mesh, such as campfire supports and tent chimes, will remain vertical.
Campfires that already exist in the game are dynamically replaced with Ashfall campfires. If the original campfire had supports, a cooking pot or a grill, then the new campfire will have that as well. The new campfires benefit from the ground orientation and verticalisation feature, making them blend into their surroundings perfectly, often even more than the original.
When standing inside a tent, the outside will become transparent, so you can see inside of it.
The Survival skill in Ashfall is made with the Skills Module MWSE Library, which integrates custom skills seamlessly into the game. The survival skill determines your ability to harvest firewood, cook food, and how well you can survive extreme weather conditions.
Your Survival skill levels up as you harvest wood, build campfires, cook food, and spend time in extreme weather.
In very cold weather, you can see the breath of the player and NPCs.
This feature may have some performance impact, especially in heavily wooded areas, due to the fact that a lot of processing happens the first time you enter a cell (this is only once-per-cell though), and the fact that a lot of items are added to the world. If you are running a lower-end machine and notice an impact on your performance, you can disable this feature in the MCM.
As you use your cooking equipment, such as kettles, frying pans and cooking pots, they will develop a patina and darken over time. You can reverse the effect by placing them under water to clean them.
