Creating PDFs of Eagle board files

Generating a PDF of your Eagle board file is helpful when you need to troubleshoot your design when on the field. Rather than carrying a laptop and opening your board file on Eagle, it is much easier to open the PDF on your phone because GitHub can open these files. Eagle offers a way to display these PDFs in a neat, organized way.

Hypnos Back Side

1. Turn off unwanted layers

If you have a 2-sided board profile, you will need to turn off layers so it only shows 1 side at a time. This prevents confusion later on and makes sure readers know what they are looking at. If you are doing the top layer, the layers you may want to turn off is Bottom, bPlace, bNames, and bDocu. If you are doing the bottom layer, the layers to turn off would be Top, tPlace, tNames, and tDocu.

2. Click the "Zoom to fit" button

Clicking this button makes sure the board takes up the entire screen.

3. File > Print

The print screen is where you will generate the PDF file. When you select "Printer", the drop down box should display an option called "Print to File (PDF)". This is the option to pick to generate a PDF file.

Print Screen

4. Options

While you are still in the print screen, there should be a section labelled "Options". Depending on what side you are using, you will select the "Mirror" option. The top layer should have the mirror option unchecked, the bottom layer should have the mirror option checked.

Note, for the scale section, make sure the scale factor is adjusted to fit the screen. There should be a preview next to it to check.

Once those options are checked, click OK and your PDF files should be generated!
