E4L Quad Panner
The E4L Quad Panner is a useful spatialization utility for upmixing stereo content into a richer sounfield with more omni presence. It takes a stereo input signal from a regular Ableton audio bus and spatializes the sound into a 16-channel Ambisonics signal that will be routed to the E4L Master Bus.
The Heads-Up Display indicates the positioning of the sound sources. The mouse may be used to click and drag the position of the base sound source position. It additionally indicates the exact positions of two copies of each of the left and right input signals.
The controls on the E4L Quad Panner are identical to those of the E4L Stereo Panner, with one difference. The E4L Quad Panner has an additional control for the Azim Spread Mode. Three options are available.
In LR mode, the left and right signals are separated laterally, with two copies of the left signal on one side of the room, and two copies of the right signal on the other. The Spread knob controls the amount of lateral separation. At low values, the signals push towards the front and back of the room, and at a value of 180 the signals spread completely to the sides.
In X (crossover) mode, the left and right copies are interleaved, with copies of the left and right signals on opposing corners. Spread behavior here is otherwise similar to LR mode.
In W mode, the left and right signals are split laterally, but with a different Spread behavior. At a value of 0 the signals all coalesce at the front of the room. At value 90 they are radially equidistant, and at 180 all signals move to the back of the room.
