Known Not Working
Some apps just do not work sadly. As the user there is generally very little you can do. If TetherFi can connect you to the Internet on your device, things will either "work" or "not work".
You may be able to work-around some of these app specific issues by using the Mobile Website version if your app has one (the app on your device that is marked as the Default Web Browser plays nicer with proxy setups than other apps do), but there is very little that I can do as the developer of TetherFi to make your other third-party application start working.
Specific apps that are known to have issues are as follows:
Stuff like games and some streaming services will use UDP and thus not work.
- Steam
- Hulu
Since online gaming uses UDP, using TetherFi to provide online connection to consoles is not able to be supported.
These are usually things like realtime chat apps and other things that require a realtime connection.
Apps that do seem to work however include LINE and Discord (tested while on a flight).
Voice programs use technologies like UDP and WebRTC which the TetherFi proxy does not have support for currently. Also, various third party websites like Discord or Facebook just plain do NOT like proxies and they will actively attempt to block us from accessing the services.
The YouTube app does not work, but the mobile website version does. Oddly enough, ads in the YouTube app do load, just the video does not. Weird.
The default Email application on the iPhone uses IMAP for email server access which does not work over the TetherFi network proxy sadly :(
Weirdly enough, you can SEND messages, you just can't RECEIVE any (it is a little slow, I'll work to speed up the performance)
What does seem to work though is using Messenger on a proxy through a mobile web browser (which always honors the Android Proxy settings), and using the Desktop version of the mobile website. Weird - but for now it seems to at least be one way to use Messenger on a phone via a proxy connection. Please note that the websocket doesn't seem to open correctly, so you may not see messages in real time - but refreshing the page (lame) will deliver the new messages.
For now, unless I can figure something out, you'll have to
Use mobile web browser in desktop mode
Sending works fine, but is kinda slow
Refresh the page manually to see new messages
Lame, I know, sorry. But for now this is the best I can do seeing that Facebook actively does not want you on a proxy (probably so they can track the device and whatnot, as Facebook does).
Carplay uses Wi-Fi direct, we use Wi-Fi Direct, and there can be only one. It seems like if you try to use TetherFi while using Carplay, it doesn't work because of this clash of ownership over the Wi-Fi direct group.
