build error with kernel 3.1.5

Does anybody know why a minor version upgrade broke the build? I would tend to believe the kernel APIs would be stable over minor changes...:( Are we using some internal APIs which are not for marked for external module consumption?

Yes, it is stable over minor kernel updates. This failure occurred when linking zfs_main.c which is part of the user space zfs command. This is more likely related to a glibc update.

Oh, I see. And yes, there was a glibc update (from 2.13 to 2.14) involved in this monthly update...yikes! How can they break stuff like this?

Looks like the static version of the glibc does not provide those symbols but the dynamic one does.

I ran into this compile problem also when hacking around with libzfs. I was able to compile statically after installing http://nfsv4.bullopensource.org/doc/tirpc_rpcbind.php http://sourceforge.net/projects/libtirpc/ and giving -I/usr/include/tirpc -ltirpc on my gcc command line.
