Modbus is a serial communications protocol for use with its programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Modbus enables communication between many (approximately 240) devices connected to a supervisory computer with a remote terminal unit (RTU) in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. | |||

Westaflex is a manufacturer of HVAC appliances, commercial equipment, based in Gütersloh, Germany. It was founded as a family business and has always been a privately held, family-owned, family-run company. |
A Modbus command contains the Modbus address of the device it is intended for. Only the intended device will act on the command. All Modbus commands contain checksum information, to ensure a command arrives undamaged. Since Modbus is a master/slave protocol, only Modbus TCP connects over port 502, as the Modbus ASCII protocol defines a message structure that controllers will recognize and use, regardless of the type of networks over which they communicate. Our WAC systems use default modbus data provided by Arduino barebones e.g. a Debian Rasberry server kit all year long. Binding is compatible with latest models since 2013,
which bring lots useful features from the Modbus (Utilities, SCADA, and Statistics like Min/Average/Max). “We believe that the days of monologue on the Internet-of-Things have ultimately given way to dialogue, which, on the other hand, means that we have to react correspondingly.” |
Each device intended to communicate using Modbus is given a unique address and the data types are named from its use in driving relays: a single-bit physical output is called a coil. Our various reading, writing and other operations are categorised as follows:
