Alea Iacta Est
What's new
- Shutdown is disabled for people that don't use it as a replacement launcher. It can be enabled setting it to 1 in config.cfg.
- The media folder is now configurable in config.cfg. It still needs to be inside the rom folder for the section, but now it can have any name, for instance, .preview
- Multiple bugs squashed and performance significantly improved for large rom sets
Notes
- TRANSFERING THROUGH FTP HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE ISSUES, IF POSSIBLE, TRANSFER DIRECTLY TO YOUR SD CARD.
- Scaling images (especially big ones) takes more processing power than using images that fit the screen resolution (320x240), so navigation may be slower if doing this,
- I don't have my Bittboy with me at the moment, so I'm not making a release for it at this time.
Instructions
- If you have a previous installation, backup your sections.cfg and favorites.cfg, delete your old /home/.simplemenu directory, launch the app once and overwrite the newly created sections.cfg and favorites.cfg with your backed up copies.
- if using the OPKs, just put them in the /media/data/apps folder
- if not using OPKs, follow these steps, otherwise, just launch the opk from your main launcher (probably gmenu2x or esoteric):
- Create the folder /mnt/app/SimpleMenu, if on Bittboy, or /media/data/SimpleMenu, if on RG-350.
- Copy the contents of the zip file to the newly created folder.
- If you want to make SimpleMenu your default launcher, place autoexec.sh in the root folder of the main partition, if on Bittboy, or put frontend-start in /media/data/local/sbin, if on RG-350.
- if you didn't have a previous installation config folder (/home/.simplemenu), after the first execution, the folder will be created
- Edit /home/.simplemenu/sections.cfg with a text editor, to set your emulators and rom folders for each section.
- Feel free to edit config.cfg as well. The options to start in fullscreen mode or to display full rom names are obsolete now, as these settings are remembered between sessions.
Tempus Fugit
What's new in fullscreen mode
- The menu is now aligned to the left
- 12 games can now be seen instead of 10
- Alphabetical navigation now displays a bar at the bottom with the available letters, instead of the big letter in the middle.
- Favorites section has been given a logo so it's more apparent that you switched to it
- The logo of the current section is displayed when coming back from Favorites
- When the favorites section is selected, game names are displayed in blue instead of yellow, to make it evident that you are inside "favorites" .
Miscelaneous changes
- Fullscreen mode and displaying full rom names settings are kept between sessions.
- Logos are now displayed while a section loads (and not after it did), if you are displaying them when switching sections (either by pressing B+dpad or the triggers in fullscreen mode). So, if a section takes a little longer to load, it doesn't seem that the menu is stuck in the current section.
- Just pressing B, doesn't show the menu if on fullscreen mode anymore
- Mini bugs fixed all around
Notes
- Scaling images (especially big ones) takes more processing power than using images that fit the screen resolution (320x240), so navigation may be slower if doing this,
- I don't have my Bittboy with me at the moment, so the Bittboy release is not tested on bring up the menu in actual hardware.
Instructions
- If you have a previous installation, backup your sections.cfg file, delete your old /home/.simplemenu directory, launch the app once and overwrite the newly created sections.cfg with your backed up copy.
- if using the OPKs, just put them in the /media/data/apps folder

Caveat Emptor
What's new
- Pocket Go 2 now supported
- Pictures in fullscreen mode now scale to fill the screen, no matter what their resolution is.
- When using the shoulder buttons in fullscreen mode, logos are shown
- More compact menu in fullscreen mode
Notes
Scaling images (especially big ones) takes more processing power than using images that fit the screen resolution (320x240), so navigation may be slower if doing this,
Instructions
- Delete your old /home/.simplemenu directory, if you have it.
- Create the folder /mnt/app/SimpleMenu, if on Bittboy, or /media/data/SimpleMenu, if on RG-350.
- Copy the contents of the zip file to the newly created folder.
- If you want to make SimpleMenu your default launcher, place autoexec.sh on the root folder of the main partition, if on Bittboy, or put frontend-start in /media/data/local/sbin, if on RG-350. If you ever want to go back to your old launcher, delete autoexec.sh or frontend-start, otherwise, if you just delete SimpleMenu, your console will boot to a black screen. I will include a better script in future versions.
- If you don't want to replace your main launcher, just create a link to the SimpleMenu executable in your preferred frontend and launch it as a regular app.
- After the first execution a .simplemenu folder will be created in /home.
- Edit /home/.simplemenu/sections.cfg with a text editor, to set your emulators and rom folders for each section.
- If you want to change the way SimpleMenu acts, like making it start in fullscreen mode or avoiding the shutdown combo to shut down your system (Start+Select), feel free to edit config.cfg as well.
Shazam!
What's new
- All new config file, easier to modify.
- Favorites screen title now displays what console a game is for.
- Revamped picture mode: now a menu is shown over the pictures, every time a key is pressed, and it's hidden after a while.
- Multifolder support for roms: more than one folder can be specified to be scanned for roms/files, for a particular section
- Added support for OPKs
- Added support for GMenu2x links: adding the .fgl (as in "friggin' GMenu link") extension to a GMenu2x link, will let SimpleMenu use it to launch the application the links points to, if the folder where the link resides is configured as a rom/file folder for a section.
- Only for RG-350 (for the moment): support for more than one emulator per section. If correctly configured (check out the genesis section), pressing start before launching a game let's you select which emulator to use, only for that particular launch. Coming soon to the Bittboy version as well.
Bug fixing and more text
This is just a small update, so only the executable is being provided to replace your existing executable from 2.0.
What's new
- Show as much text as can be fit within the current horizontal resolution for rom names, instead of cutting them off at 35 characters in all cases.
The font is not mono spaced, so doing that didn't make sense :)
Fixes
- Stop reading the last state of non existing sections
- Ignore blank lines in sections.cfg
- PSX can be launched again
- Fixed the favorites section colors for Bittboy and Pocket Go, which was missing a value for the last color
Huzzah!
Notes
- See the wiki for controls features and more
- If you have a previous release I would recommend to not try to keep it and just replace it with this one, as some things have changed in the sections.cfg file and in favorites.sav.
What's new
- Favorites section now hidden from sections.cfg, so it can't be deleted by mistake when editing it.
- Added alias files support for sections like MAME, Neo-Geo or FBA.
- Added a default alias file, in the resources folder (alias.txt)
- You can either edit this file or create your own alias files and add them to sections, if the default is too large or doesn't include one of your roms
Just Better
Notes
- This release is ALSO for the RG-300, see additional zip file below
- See the wiki for controls features and more
What's new
- Changed favorites section color to match the transparent RG-300 color scheme
- Screenshots now need to go in a special "media" folder inside the roms folder.
Example: /media/mmcblk1p1/roms/snes/media - Improved section loading times
- Added a shutdown message, so people know when to flip the switch
- When deleting a game, now its picture is deleted as well.
The purge
Notes
- See the wiki page for controls features and more
- If you want to replace gmenu, and you are on CFW 1.3.1 or above, just put autoexec.sh (attached below) in the main partition and be sure to extract the simplemenu zip file to /mnt/apps/simplemenu
- The scripts section is definitely missing native games and apps, I will complete it in the future but, for now, please add anything you miss manually, on your computer. Look at existing ".sh" files in that section.
What's new
- Fixed a bug in favorites
- Large sections should load faster now
- The processor frequency for sleep mode can be configured in the config.cfg file, in case your console won't come out of suspension with the default value of 200.
- Roms can now be deleted by holding A and pressing TB.
THERE'S NO SECURITY PROMPT, IF YOU PRESS THIS YOUR ROM WILL BE DELETED!
¡PODERES DE LOS GEMELOS FANTÁSTICOS ACTÍVENSE!

What's new
- The screen turns off after a period of time and the processor is set to its lowest frequency, to save power. Pressing any key wakes the console up.
The initial value is 15 seconds but it can be changed in the new config.cfg file. - Normal, overclocked and underclocked frequencies can now also be defined in config.cfg
- Hotkey + Select now randomly selects a game from the active session and launches it
Flashy!
Notes
- For this release, if you have favorites from versions previous to 1.5.1, remove them and start again. You can just empty your existing favorites file or replace the whole SimpleMenu directory with the contents of the zip file for this release.
- This release includes more folders inside of the resources folder, be sure to get those if just upgrading the executable, as well as check the new sections.cfg file to add the logo folder config to your own sections.cfg.
- See the wiki page for controls
- If you want to replace gmenu, and you are on CFW 1.3.1, just put autoexec.sh (attached below) in the main partition and be sure to extract the simplemenu zip file to /mnt/apps/simplemenu

What's new
- Flashy screens when switching sections using the hotkey method.
- Kept "fast" section switching using L and R on Pocket go but corrected the mappings, so they are not inverted anymore.
