Penumbra Requiem: Fails to Download #188
Comments
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8495-OKZC-0159 Penumbra: Requiem is not currently supported by Steam for Linux. |
This thread should not be closed at all. Requiem should be supported!!! https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8495-OKZC-0159 There is stated: Penumbra Black Plague Gold Edition which Requiem is part of. Either it is supported, or list is wrong. If nobody competent responds to this, I will create new issue... (sadly) |
Precisely. If it isn't supported, why does it show up in the list of "Linux On Fri, Dec 21, 2012 at 3:07 AM, Roman Bronis [email protected]:

Ah, my apologies. I wasn't aware that you had Requiem through Penumbra: BPGE. Honestly, the list is further and further off lately. |
OK, and can you please change state from closed? Bcs. this is still issue. |
IMHO This is different case. I will tell you why: On Linux I would expect same behaviour but, they forget about something and executables for Requiem are not downloading. |
The issue applies to ONE component of one game. There are reports of DLC not being supported while the core game is. Same issue. Developer needs to supply Valve with the correct files and/or Valve needs to update them. They're aware of the situation and are working on it under the above mentioned cases. |
Confirming that Overture at least is functioning just fine after download, and that deleting Requiem and re-installing it AFTER having Overture and Black Plague installed does not change this issue. Still the same error. |
tl;dr: it's not duplicate and shouldn't be closed. I don't want to flame, but do your homework. So it's not duplicate to #16. And #28 is dealing with games, which are not on supported list. However, this game is on supported list. It's closed bcs. you think it's duplicate. But think of this: If it is duplicate, fixing other issues (#28 or #16 as you mentioned) will help. But really, I cannot see, how fixing FTL or Shank (both unsupported and connected to #28) will help? This is issue for one specific game and should be closed when Valve or Frictional Games fix THIS game on Steam. If it is unsupported, then list of supported games is wrong and this issue should be closed again, when corrected. |
It's not just the games (FTL/Shank 2) specifically but the bug causing those games to download incorrectly that is the issue referenced. 28 often stems from 16. |
torval: try to install latest steam_latest.deb http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/archive/precise/steam_latest.deb MrSchism: Ok, instead of arguing I will try my best to help and I will:
and report back here and confirm/deny that it is "the bug causing those games to download incorrectly". Could you please open this issue till then? (bcs. you don't have any evidence it is what you mentioned) |
I will try to install the latest .deb when I make it back to my PC, but it may be awhile. I've got Christmas plans tonight. FWIW, I agree with Roman that this is a separate issue from #28 and #16. Fixing either of those two will do nothing to remedy this situation, and so I do not think that this could be classified as a duplicate. |
First and foremost, I'll reopen this for the time being. However I'd like screenshots of the folder with the DLC in it. There's a good chance that the issue is that the game is either downloading an empty directory or downloading windows files. Those two conditions are responsible for 16 and 28. The list says that the game works, however it might not have had the DLC ported over... so Penumbra Black Plague would work but the DLC wouldn't... and the game itself would be listed (which, as I mentioned before, isn't accurate) |
So, what I found: However, when I checked Black Plague folder, only things which changed (after Requiem installation) was file empty.txt which actually is not empty at all (some kind of protection?) and 3 weird files (probably just time changed, bcs. size seems same): me@home:~$ diff req_w_f.list bp_w_f.list
|
FYI: FTL was just added to the official supported game list. Please delete local content and download again. |
It does appear to be working; I'll know for sure when it finishes downloading. |
Cross reference: And also notification to Frictional Games forums: |
I'm the one who packaged Penumbra for Steam 4 linux, and Requiem is part of the "BP gold edition". And it works correctly locally on my system.. My guess is there is some misconfiguration elsewhere (server side) going on that is preventing it from installing on other users systems. |
Thank you very much for your time and effort. Cross reference to your answer on Frictional Games forums: |
I'm also replaying Overture, and wish to continue through the other two. :) On Sat, Dec 22, 2012 at 2:07 PM, Roman Bronis [email protected]:

2012/12/29 - still not fixed |
2013/1/3 - still not fixed |
2013/1/5 - still not fixed |
They're aware of the issue. |
I don't think so. The Polynomial had similiar (probably same) issue and after reporting it was fixed in one day. (look to SPUF of Polynomial) |
They've reviewed it; they're aware of the issue. |
Update - 20130108 update fixed Penumbra: Requiem and it is now installable and playable. Thanks for fix. I think this issue can be closed now. |
When attempting to download and install Penumbra: Requiem, it simply launches the download, completes instantly, and shows as installed and ready to play. Disk usage shows "none"
Similar to issue #79 .
Penumbra: Overture and Black Plague both seem to be downloading normally, although I cannot verify whether they function properly until the downloads finish.
