Form a team of translators #29
Comments
Here are the top 10
Top priority languages seem to be Japanese, Spanish, Russian. |
Hi, I can gladly help translate Japanese. |
@MSakamaki that's great, thank you! I've started a prioritized list in the original post and added your name for Japanese. |
Hi, I would like to help with the Spanish translation! |
Thanks @c-torres! I've put your name down for Spanish and sent you an invite to join the Translators team. You can accept via email or visiting https://github.com/HTTPArchive. |
I’d like to help with Russian translate |
Thank you @Pavel-Evdokimov! Put you down for Russian and invited you to the Translators team. |
Now that we have all three P0 languages covered, I've opened #38 to ensure that we launch in English, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. If we can find translators for the P1 languages, those would be nice to launch with but not blocking. |
Hello everyone! @c-torres please let me know if I can help you translating. Spanish is my first language. Encantado de ayudar en lo que pueda. |
Thanks @taytus! I've added you as a secondary Spanish translator. I've also sent you an invite to our Translators team, you can accept by going to https://github.com/HTTPArchive (@Pavel-Evdokimov you've got a pending invitation too, follow the link above to accept) |
Sure thing @taytus! Contento de trabajar con usted! |
@c-torres how do you want to split this? shoot me an email at [email protected] so we can coordinate. I will have this weekend available to help as much as I can. |
@c-torres is correct. Sorry for any confusion. We've done an initial translation of the home page into Japanese as a proof of concept for our workflow. After we get all of the chapter contents in a stable place (~September), we'll send it out to everyone for translation. This way it's more of a one-time thing than having to update the same files over and over as they are revised. |
Oh! That is awesome.
I saw some languages were getting translated and got excited!
Thank you both so much.

@rviscomi How much content are we talking about to be translated, I'd like to help out with German, but I think it's too much for one person isnt it? |
My best guess is 20 chapters * ~2 pages each on average, so about 40 pages of content. It will definitely be a lot for one person, so it would be great to have alternate translators to help out. We will appreciate whatever you can contribute! I'll invite you to the @HTTPArchive/translators team to get you started. |
Hello everyone! |
Thanks @performize great to have you! I'll send you an invite to the team. Meanwhile I've put you down as the primary Italian translator. |
More help is certainly welcome. With three translators the workload should be much more manageable. Thanks for volunteering, @JMPerez! |
Just saw the excelente work being done at Chrome Dev Summit and I would like to contribute translating to Portuguese |
@rviscomi assign me to work on French translations :) |
Hi, do you still need any help with Italian translation? |
@realjoker yes, that would be great! Please coordinate with @performize to complete the translations. |
Awesome! I'll contact him right away. |
@realjoker drop me a line (in Italian): andrea at performize.it . thx |
Done, thanks |
@taytus we translated 2 chapters (see https://github.com/HTTPArchive/almanac.httparchive.org/tree/master/src/content/es/2019). I have created #498 to coordinate on the translation to Spanish. Feel free to write your name next to the chapters you start working on. |
Thank you José, I will select a couple of chapters and will start working
on them ASAP.

may I join this team to translate into Korean? |
Yes that would be great, thank you @the6thm0nth! |
Hi, @performize, have you got my email? |
since I still haven't got any information from @performize, could @rviscomi point me in the right direction on what I should do? |
Hi @realjoker Thanks for agreeing to help with this! I have opened #585 for this and sent you invites to the Contributor and Translator teams at which point you will be able to edit the issue to assign yourself to chapters so others know you are working on them. In meantime I’ve assigned the first chapter to you. You need to fork the project in GitHub and then translate the documents and submit pull requests to merge them back in. For chapters they are in the Other translator teams have had some success with GitLocalize as it provides side by side comparisons. It then allows PRs to be submitted from there. I’m not really familiar with it to be honest. Someone like myself will review the PRs for technical correctness but ideally we’d have another translator for each language to review the language as well. Not sure if @performize still has time for this but if so then they would review your chapters and you would review theirs. If we get more Italian speakers onboard then you can split up the chapters and reviewing between you all. Hopefully that makes sense. Feel free to ask any questions on #585. |
Hi, I want to help Japanese translation!! |
Excellent news! That's being tracked in #586 so head over there and hook up with @MSakamaki to divide up the work. |
The Almanac will be published in English, but we want to make sure that everyone can access and understand it.
I'd like to put together a team of translators to help make the Almanac available in as many languages as possible, prioritizing those with the largest developer communities. If you're interested, can you reply to this issue with the languages you're available to contribute?
The entire Almanac website would need to be translated, including: home page, methodology page, contributors page, and all chapters. If there are multiple translators for a language we can split up the work.
According to the timeline, if all goes to schedule, we'll have about 8 weeks after the chapters are completed to get them translated before launch. I'm open to making some major languages "launch blockers" if there's a good case and available resources, otherwise we can commit to translating after launch. All content in all languages will be available on GitHub, so at any time anyone could submit a PR with entire translations or specific translation fixes.
