Thunderbird 52 / Lightning 5.4 support #580
Comments
Hi All, I also have problems with Thnderbird 52.0 It would be great, if EWS Exchangeprovider would support current version of Thunderbird too. Thanks, bye bye |
Same here. Have been worried that this was going to happen for a while now (Thunderbird was eventually moving on from 48.x), yet EWS never worked properly with any version of TB past that version. |
Hello
as the latest version of Thunderbird I found version 45.8.0 today.

Hello, |
I have the same problems with Thnderbird 52.0, Lightning 5.4, Exchange EWS Provider 3.9.0. bOOT |
Same here using 3.9.0 with TB 52.0:
Extract of the EWS logs:
Edit: duplicate of issue #576 |
me, too :-( Any help needed to get it done? |
Tried davmail for the meantime, but although it worked back then, now it only shows events with no title and content. So I went back to thunderbird 48 from Ubuntu repositories. :( |
Same issue here. The Plugin don't ask for a Password when setting up a calendar. Does anybody know a workaround beside keeping Thunderbird 48.*? |
Same for me :( |
Me too. |
Same here! An exisiting calender does not sync anymore! |
I don't know if we should expect a reply any time soon. It seems that the project has been inactive for about 9 months. Anyone knows of an alternative? |
Davmail is an alternative that was already mentioned. But you are wrong
when saying that the project is dead and inactive for 9months. The 4.0
branch was active 3 months ago

Sorry, my bad. This is the n-th time I get hit by the fact that Github does not really show activity in any of the branches by default unless you go looking for it. |
I have not looked at the code for this for years, but testing it on Thunderbird 52 showed an obvious syntax error from some really old, obsolete javascript that caused a key file to fail. I fixed this by commenting out that function (that deals with setting tags for messages, probably not that commonly used). Try this version: http://mesquilla.net/betas/[email protected] If that fixes the main non-working issue y'all are having I'll rewrite those few lines of code to get this working again. |
Thank you, but didn't seem to make any difference in my case. TB 52, Lightning 5.4, Fedora Linux 25. |
Thanks for looking at this but it didn't work for me either. If I statically enter my known working Exchange credentials I get a HTTP 401 failure (and no prompt for my password): Error during checking of server and mailbox: HTTP Client error 401: Unauthorized If I use Exchange autodiscovery I get a HTTP 403 failure: Error during autodiscovery: HTTP Client error 403: Forbidden TB 52.0.1 |

I tried to have a look at the difference between TB 45.* and 52.* on my link machine. It seems some of the error messages where already there in TB 45.*. So maybe this is not the source of the error? TB 52.0.1

lanlronc I do not understand the question.. which preferences are you
referring to?

it solved, or how can one force the plugin to show the windows for
settings/preferences etc?

Hi together, |
@axelrathey on Linux, my TB just got updated to 52.2.0 and Lightning to 5.4.2, exchange still at v4.0.0-beta2. I an create and event, invite people as before. |
I'm a little confused on which repo should be considered authoritative now. A lot of activity on this issue which points to the https://github.com/ExchangeCalendar/exchangecalendar/ repo. Has all activity moved there? Why not have the discussion there, too? |
Hmm, good point @retorquere .. I have not even noticed the different project/repo names 😊 .. but was confused when trying to find the beta release of the exchange and was not in this repo release list.. |
What happened to the agenda in Thunderbird (Win 10 64) ? TB upgraded to 52.2.0 this morning, but no more agenda, no more "Events" menu, no more icon, no more agenda tab in Options, and the Lighning extension refuses to install... Incompatibility due to the TB upgrade ? Any explanation ? Thanks if you can let me know why ! Back to Google calendar via browser :-( |
4.0.0-beta2 working on Linux Mint, TB 52.1.1 and Lightning 5.4. Thank you @advancingu @rkent !! |
@retorquere The people with control over this repository here are not responding anymore. Without them, there is no way to point users to the |
@advancingu : can we assign and resolve this issue here? and we could ask @Brenboy to edit the issue description, pointing to the new branch as a solution? |
@advancingu would it be an idea to open a new issue with a title along the line "SUPPORT FOR THIS REPO HAS MOVED TO ExchangeCalendar/exchangecalendar"? (sorry for the yelling) A bit of a shame the repo owners won't help move things along, but that's how it goes sometimes. |
great work to @advancingu @rkent !! 4.0.0-beta2 working on Linux Mint, TB 52.1.1 and Lightning 5.4. |
Unfortunately, neither 4.0.1002, nor 4.0.0-beta2 are working on Scientific Linux 7, TB 52.2.0 and Lightning 5.4.2. More specifically, i'm unable to connect to my exchange server. |
@advancingu Thank you very much for your fix. TB 52.2.1 calendar is now working with v4.0.0-beta4 and Lighting 5.4 |
Thanks for the fix, @advancingu. Works with TB 52.2.1, Lightning 5.4 and v4.0.0-beta4. |
following worked for me on Debian 9.0 lightning 5.4.2.1 note: same config with ews 4.0.1002 works but, you cannot invite attendees |
Does not work for me with lightning 5.4 |
Using https://github.com/ExchangeCalendar/exchangecalendar/releases/tag/v4.0.0-beta4 with Thunderbird 52.3.0 (64-bit) worked for me. |
Unfortunately, the upgrade to 52.3.0 did not change anything for me. I'm still queried 2 times for the password and then I get the error message below. The plugin worked fine ~1/2 year ago with an older version of thunderbird and v3.9.0. Error during checking of server and mailbox: HTTP Client error 401: Unauthorized |
It is working fine for me with Thunderbird 52 and 53. I did have the password problem a couple of months ago. The fix required me to close Thunderbird, remove the old configuration files, and re-configure from scratch. I got idea that Thunderbird was not smart enough to fully re-set everything in prefs.js or such. pj |
Thanks for the hint. I got it working again after deleting all existing preferences (it's difficult to figure out what needs to be removed). |
Sorry if my questions would sound silly... what are the exact actions needed to delete the preferences. I ended up moving prefs.js to another location and reconfiguring the mailbox from scratch, but still receive 401: Unauthorized when adding a new Exchange calendar (Thunderbird 52.3.0, Lightning 5.4.3, ews v4.0.0-beta4 and beta3 and beta2) |
@tippytosha THIS. FORK. IS. NOT. MAINTAINED. CREATE. AN. ISSUE. AT. THE. MAINTAINED. FORK. https://github.com/Exchangecalendar/exchangecalendar/ |
Hi,
I tried cleaning up the prefs.js first with no effect. In the end, I renamed the whole .thunderbird folder, reconfigured the mailbox as you did and this time it worked.

For me too! |
Not problems connecting to my Exchange calendar using Thunderbird 52.5.2 (64-bit) with Lightning 5.4.5.2 and Exchange Calendar 4.0.0-beta5. |
No problem connecting to Exchange calendar and address book, using Thunderbird 52.6.0, Lightning 5.4.1 and Exchange EWS Provider 4.0.1003 |
Hi All,
Thunderbird auto-upgraded to version 52 today and as a result Lightning upgraded to 5.4.
I can no longer connect to my Exchange server using the Exchange Calendar add-on versions 3.8.0 or 3.9.0.
Is Thunderbird 52 / Lightning 5.4 supported by this add-on or is a new version going to be released that provides support.
Thanks,
Brendon
