Summary

SUMMARY: Balance "Adjusting the volume and weight of a few small knives"

Purpose of change

The volumes and weights of a lot of knives seems to be way off.

Describe the solution

I got a handful of pocket knives that seemed like decent examples of the general class of knives, a ruler, and a scale.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  • Leaving it how it was.
  • Measuring the approximate volume of the paring knife a different way. I calculated the volume by making two (imaginary) boxes: one for the blade and one for the handle, and adding their volume together, if I instead used a single box that was big enough for both the blade and the handle I ended up with a volume of more like 70ml, this is because the blade itself is actually quite thin.

Testing

I debug spawned all the items and made sure they appeared and with the new sizes.

Additional context

(Please excuse the excessively detailed notes I kept while measuring these)

knife_paring:

This was actually the biggest of the kitchen knives at 250ml for some reason; I measured two paring knives I had in my kitchen and averaged them (then rounded) to get 50g and 30ml.

knife_folding:

I checked this against a CRKT M-16 (I'm not sure the exact model); volume wasn't unreasonable (40ml as opposed to 35ml), but weight was way off (256g to 70g), so I dropped the weight a lot.

pockknife:

For a small penknife the weight (141g) of this was way to high, and the volume (5ml) too low. A Victorinox Classic (basically a small penknife without all the usual Swiss Army Knife tools) is 20g and 10ml.

switchblade:

Again way to heavy (464g), and actually had a volume of 0. I've made it 25% larger than the knife_folding. (I don't own any switchblades, but I've something called a "Shelham 3005" which is roughly the same shape and size as the stereotypical switchblade)

knife_swissarmy:

I looked on the Victorinox website to find a SAK that had both a metal and wood saw, which is relatively rare outside of the Swiss Champ which is one of the largest Swiss Army knives and also includes things like magnifying glasses and pliers. The Ranger seems the most reasonable approximation, so these numbers are based off of it.

multitool:

I compared this with a Gerber Suspension, again weight was way too high (494g to 240g) while this time volume was too high as well (250ml to 66ml); I rounded it up a little since the Suspension is slightly smaller than some multitools. (Interestingly due to its all-metal construction this was the only one to deviate from the 2g/ml volume)

Oh, and by the way, the Makeshift knife is 500ml. A spike is 250ml. I'll be down with adjusting the recipes.

Yes, a lot of the other knives and small tools seem to be off as well, but I decided to make a pull request for these ones since I don't know when, or if, I'll get round to adjusting the others.
