JW Library Compatibility
If you are using OnlyT in addition to JW Library®, and want to show the countdown timer on the main media monitors, there can be some contention for the media display (TVs or projector). This is where the OnlyT "JW Library Compatibility mode" can help. It is recommended that you do not display the countdown timer on the main media monitors, but if you really want to please read on:
When the "JW Library Compatibility" mode is enabled, it tries to ensure that the JW Library background (currently the year text) is restored after OnlyT countdown completes. The mechanism is fragile because of how Windows manages processes that attempt to control windows belonging to other applications. Please follow these guidelines when using JW Library and OnlyT together:
- Set the "JW Library compatibility mode" in OnlyT settings.
- Make sure the Windows desktop background is black. This minimizes the distraction caused when control changes from one application to the other.
- Ensure that OnlyT is active when the countdown is to start. If JW Library is active at the time the countdown starts, OnlyT will be unable to override the year text to display the countdown. This is a restriction imposed by Windows which prevents a window belonging to the current application from being "hi-jacked" by another processs.
- If the JW Library year text is not re-displayed once the countdown has finished, click the JW Library icon on the Windows taskbar and select the secondary window. If the year text is still not shown, toggle the JW Library setting "Play video on second display".
This information was correct at July 2018 (version 10.4.24257 of JW Library for Windows).
In Windows 10 UWP apps there is an optional "full-screen" mode for applications and its windows. You can see this by opening JWL and pressing SHIFT-WIN-ENTER. Notice that this makes JW Library full-screen with no title bar. When in this mode, the application will automatically minimize when another application is brought to the fore on the same monitor (this is apparently a tablet-friendly feature but is not disabled by turning tablet mode off). Use SHIFT-WIN-ENTER to toggle between modes.
When the media window (e.g. year text or a video) is displayed, JW Library shows it in this special full-screen mode. This means that if you open another window (or even drag a window from another monitor onto it), it will minimize (Windows thinks you want to show something else and so pushes the JW Library media window out of the way). This makes it fairly fragile, so take care!
Please also see JwMediaWin which offers a better solution to the interoperation between JW Library and other media applications like OnlyT.
