Tool Descriptions

Spelunker Query

Makes a query through the Spelunker service (http://spelunker.herokuapp.com), which can query either Sky Server or Ned. Although Ned is too slow to query in a production environment.

Zooniverse Query

Allows the user to make a list of Zooniverse IDs from importing Talk Collections, Favorites, Recents, or manually entering IDs, then imports all the subject information for those IDs.

Serengeti CartoDB

Allow the user to make location-based queries on Snapshot Serengeti classifications.

Table

Displays data in tabular form. Allows the user to sort data by column, and to select data by clicking or shift clicking for multiple elements.

Scatterplot

A 2-D Scatterplot. Users can make a selection by drawing a bounding box on it.

Histogram

A Histogram. Users can make a selection by drawing a bounding box on it. The number of bins is also adjustable.

Bar Graph

A Bar Graph, it is different from the Histogram in that it puts data into ‘bins’ based on string values, instead of using numerical values.

Spectra

When given a datum that has the plate, mjd, and FiberID of a Sky Server subject, it retrieves spectral information from http://api.sdss3.org/.

Subject Viewer

Displays the subject’s image and any associated data. In Galaxy Zoo it allows for querying for similar galaxies.

Image Gallery

Pageable display of thumbnails of all subjects in a dataset, and a larger image of a selected subject.

Map

Uses Leaflet to display a map. The tool is currently hardwired to correct for RA/Dec vs. Lat/Lng, and to use the Chromoscope Tilesets and their unique naming scheme.

SpaceWarp Viewer

FITS viewer using Amit’s WebFITS library.

Image Player

Plays through a series of images like a slide show.

Color-Magnitude Char Displays a probability distribution of the color/magnitude relationship of galaxies in the current Galaxy Zoo dataset, and graphs the users dataset on top of them.
