This is a tracking issue for native 360° video support on the web.
At TPAC 2019, @SamiraAtMicrosoft ran a breakout session (slides, notes) to discuss standardisation of 360 video support in web browsers, e.g., of extensions to the HTML
The M&E IG last discussed this in 2018, with a presentation from Fraunhofer FOKUS (minutes, summary). See also issue #9 regarding a secure path for 360° video.
To follow up, there is now an open GitHub issue in the Immersive Web CG proposals repo.
