It is too flaky at this point because tests are running too slow and we run into test timeouts hardcoded in the unit test. Before we try to re-enable this, let me switch the Travis tests to run in the new VM infrastructure via Docker first.

Any chance we can merge this soon? My PR #3134 is currently stuck on unit_race as well. They're running for 35+ mins. I'd like to rebase on top of this |

Merging now. @alainjobart I'm tagging you here as an FYI. I hope to restore this once I moved to Docker test runs on Travis. |
