Introduction
------------

AirScan is a Wi-Fi scanning utility for the Nintendo DS. It offers various
filtering features to facilitate access point discovery.
For example, it can be used to locate open access points in low WiFi density
areas thanks to its sensivity.

Interesting features include :
	- Display only desired protection levels (open, WEP, WPA)
	- Connectivity testing for open access points :
		- DNS resolution of www.google.com
		- Google homepage retrieval
	- Easy scrolling
	- Timeouts for out of range APs

This app was inspired by wifi_lib_test v0.3a by Stephen Stair.
Thanks a lot Stephen for dswifi !

Usage
-----
AirScan will start discovering and displaying surrounding access points as soon
as it is started.
You can then scroll the list using the UP and DOWN buttons, and scroll a screen
at a time using L and R.

You can choose to display only certain APs based on protection : the B, A and X
buttons will respectively toggle open, WEP and WPA access points display.

If you want access points to disappear when they haven't been seen since some
time, use the LEFT and RIGHT key to define the timeout, in seconds. A timeout
of 0 disables the functionality.

Finally, if you want to test the connectivity of an open (WEP and WPA are NOT
and will NOT be supported) access point, you can "click" on it in the list.
This will bring up a new screen and AirScan will try to associate to this
access point, then do a DHCP request to get an IP address. If it succeeds, it
will try to resolve the IP for www.google.com, get the Google homepage and
display the beginning of the HTTP response on the top screen. This feature is
particularly interesting to check if a given AP is really open or a captive
portal.

Known bugs and limitations
--------------------------
Cycling through all present access points can be quite long if there are too
many. This is a limitation of dswifi which implies that some parameters are not
updated in real time, like signal strength.
This also means that timeouts can behave strangely.

Real known bugs :
	- crashes sometimes when the number of APs is high (> 400)
	- when connecting to an AP then going back to scanning
and trying to connect to another AP will not work
	  every time (dswifi bug ?)
	- timeouts handling is still probably a bit buggy

Compiling
---------
1) make sure to use devkitARM >= 28 and dswifi > 0.3.12.
2) Setup env vars
3) Build by typing "make"

History
-------
v1.0 : 07/11/2010
	- DNS testing
	- Google GET test
	- new icon

v0.6 : 20/02/2010
	- fixed scrolling
	- hopefully fix timeouts related bugs

v0.5.1: 18/01/2010
	- bugfix (modes string off by one)
	  thanks to the reporter.

v0.5 : 09/01/2010
	- got rid of PALib (way easier to build)
	- timeouts should work better (correctly ?)
	- cleaner code, split in different files
	- connection test to open APs

v0.2 : 02/03/2008
	- Timeouts are now working

v0.1a : 26/06/2008
	- Initial public release

Contact
-------

Please read the TODO file before mailing me.
Do NOT mail me to ask me how to crack WEP/WPA ...
Also, the DS is way too underpowered to be even close to useful
to crack WEP/WPA access point. If you want to do that, use a PC
and aircrack.
