Uk based engineering consultant, eager to share my passion for digitial design and manufacture. Background in mechanical engineering, educated to masters level, currently employed with a global leader in industrial engineering software.
I spend most of my free time working on opensource design, engineering and manufactruring tools, such as FreeCAD. I am particully interested in the FreeCAD Path workbench that provides CNC/CAM functionalilty and my main area of focus is introducing lathe / turning support.
Creating an opensource turning solution is particully challenging as there are very few opensource tools or libraries to work with when it comes to turning functionality, therefore I am creating an opensource lathe library called LibLathe.
Sponsorship is important to me as it will help fund materials and tooling for testing the LibLathe output on my CNC Lathe. LibLathe outputs a gcode file that includes machine instructions for the lathe to follow. It is my intention to create a lathe simulation environment within FreeCAD (Currently only supports milling operations) however the best test results are achieved through real world testing, which is destructive and fairly costly.
