Who's this person, anyways?
Hi! ๐
I'm Cora, a transgender programmer in the US slinging code for fun and profit. I'm passionate about helping beginners and doing the foundational work to be a multiplier for others, even whole communities. I'd like the things I've learned and the skills I've gained to enable others to learn and grow. I want to live up to a phrase a friend of mine says: lift others while you climb.
What does she do?
At the moment I maintain Calva and cljdoc.
Visual Studio Code is one of the most popular text editors in use today. This makes Calva, the VS Code extension for writing Clojure(Script), extremely important to the Clojure community. My work on the project so far has focused on making it more maintainable. This has taken the form of adding consistent code formatting, stringent linting, and improving the handling of nulls/undefined to reduce the number of errors.
It's hard to overstate how valuable cljdoc is to the Clojure community. If you want to read documentation on any given library you head to cljdoc.org. The front-end needs a little love and attention, though, and could use some usability improvements. One place I'm working on next for usability improvements is search. It's hard to find things in the documentation since you can't search across all the documentation for a library. I have a clever trick up my sleeve to solve this problem without causing more maintenance burden or additional hosting needs.
Both of these projects are so valuable to the community and I hope my work helps the community grow and thrive.
What's she going to do with the money?
It turns out that health care is quite expensive and so I'll be using most of the funds I receive through sponsorship towards that end. I'll also donate 10% towards charities supporting transgender people and/or transition funds of other transgender people in need. ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
What if I want to support other people, too?
If that's the case then I'd point you to Peter Strรถmberg, Brandon Ringe, and Lukas Domagala! Their work on Calva is invaluable and genuinely makes the world a better place for so many people. ๐
