Repository files navigation
This is a github repository which implements cuckoo hashing technique . It hashes the packet received of a particular flow into the hashtable using a key which is created using the 5 ip tuple parameters. The repository consisits of the following : 1. include folder- consists of the header files ofthe library. 2. src folder- consists of the source files of the library. 3. test folder- consists of the client and server application which uses this library. 4. Makefile -for automation of the build process The test folder consists of clients folder that consists of a tcp client , an udpclient. These clients can insert, delete or lookup for an entry in the hashtable. The test clients and servers are made only to ahndle tcp and udp packets. But the library is generic and can be used with any protocol. You need to design your application program accordingly. The server applications are responsible for receiving the packet and insert, delete or lookup for the packet respectively. The server applications are designed using three techniques: 1. using poll() system call. 2. using multithreaded approach. 3. packet sniffer using a raw socket. You can use either one of the application for testing the hash library. The hash libary consists of three main functions: 1. insert_packet(void *data): for inserting the entry(packet). This functions takes a packet and calculates an index according to the IP tuple parameters. If the entry is not present it hashes it onto the table and updates the time stamp and initializes the count. If the entry is already present for packet of the same flow then it simply updates the timestamp and also the count. 2. delete_packet(void *data): for deletion of the entry(packet). This function looks for an existing packet in the hashtable and then deletes the packet of a particular flow. 3. lookup_packet(void *data): for looking up an entry(packet). This function looks for an packet in the hashtable and prints the details of the packet if present. In order to use test this library clone this repository and simply type $ make on the terminal. once you do that you will find muktiple executable files created namely: rawServer, multithreadServer and pollServer: use any one of these server applications by running them on the terminal. Give IP address of the server and the port number as the command line arguments respectively. If you don't specify any arguments then specify the ip address and port number when asked at runtime. Don't give any arguments if you are using rawServer. Also you will find two more additional executables for clients namely: tcpclient and udpclient: use any of these or use bith of them simultaniously by running them on the terminal. (give IP address of the server and he port number as the command line arguments respectively or specify them when asked at runtime) 1. In order to delete or lookup for an packet firse type "delete" or "lookup" respectively and then type in the IP tuple parameters of the packet to be deleted or searched. 2. If you just want to insert the packet then just type in the message you want to send. The rawServer i.e. packet sniffer dosen't perform the packet lookup and deletion. It only does the hashing and updation of the packet. If you want to remove all the executables created after the build process simply type $ make clean on the terminal Here is an example of how to run the files on terminal: $ make $ ./pollserver <IP_ADDRESS> <PORT_NUMBER> OR $ ./pollserver #Then enter the ip address and port number when asked at runtime #on other terminal $./tcpclient <IP_ADDRESS> <PORT_NUMBER> OR $./tcpclient #Then enter the ip address and port number when asked at runtime #for deletion or lookup $./tcpclient <IP_ADDRESS> <PORT_NUMBER> #then when asked about message enter "lookup" or "delete" for searching a entry or deleting an entry respectively $. enter message to send: lookup #then you will be asked top enter the parameters of packet to be searched or deleted #if want to delete all the executables created $make clean Note: This repository only handles IPv4 packets.
