Background

Last summer CoCalc migrated its infrastructure for scalability and security. This summer, we will upgrade several important aspects, which will require some downtime.

The round of upgrades includes these infrastructure changes:

• Kubernetes 1.11
• PostgreSQL Database 10.4, which also involves maintenance of some large tables.
• Push all back-end services to run on Ubuntu 18.04 (from Ubuntu 16.04)

User-visible upgrades will include:

• Python 2: 2.7.12 → 2.7.15rc1
• Python 3: 3.5.2 → 3.6.5
• R: 3.4.3 → 3.4.4
• Scala: 2.11.6 → 2.11.12
• Go: 1.10 → 1.10.1
• LaTeX texlive: 2015.20160320-1ubuntu0.1 → 2017.20180305-1

These upgrades will make CoCalc more robust, performant, and secure.
