Can we ever get here with out_filename not containing a file name component? Or can we just use out_filename.file_name().unwrap() like the if self.sess.target.is_like_osx branch?

I seems that we cannot, my attempts to pass things like . or something/.. were caught by the GeneratedFileConflictsWithDirectory, but maybe there are ways.
In the PR I just kept the existing logic.

Silently ignoring what looks like invalid input seems like a bad default. But maybe that is better handled in a targeted PR. I'll leave it up to you if you want to change it here.
