(I'm sorry if I get something wrong.)

The current (old) Rust's logo with a big 'R', let people sometimes think of the R programming language, whose logo has a big 'R' too.

I'd like to see a new Rust logo with the essence/spirit of metal and rust (and more).

I've used R before and was well aware of its logo, but I'd never actually made that association before. Maybe I'm biased? I think the current sprocket-based logo is "industrial-y" enough that this confusion is unlikely.

I'm actually a little wary of even leaving this issue open. Arguing over logo design has the capability to spiral into a bikeshed the likes of which we've never seen before. The fact that we currently have a logo that is not just not-terrible, but actually somewhat charming is nothing short of a miracle.

This doesn't seem very prevalent, as I can't remember a single case of somebody being confused.

essence/spirit of metal and rust

There is a variant of the current logo (notably used on the sub-Reddit) that is literally more rusty:

nothing short of a miracle.

Well, it was designed by the person in part responsible for Firefox's awesome logo and many others, http://blog.seanmartell.com/brands/, the Rust logo is a bit towards the middle. Check out the unused Rust logo there too:

I would love to at least have some more Rust-inspired artwork, regardless of whether we officially replace the logo or not.

As a heavy-metal enthusiast, I'd like a gloriously campy concert t-shirt depicting a viking battle scene with giant, rusty iron weapons or something.

A Charles Babbage / Ada Lovelace difference engine (steampunk-like) design would be fun. ;-)

But to be clear, I agree with bstrie about the bikeshed. I don't want to pursue a replacement rust logo, but do want to encourage people to experiment with rust-themed art in general.

At this point, I'm not sure we're going to change the logo, so I'm going to give this a close. Thanks!
