'search' does not work #232
Comments
please add more info, in as this form the ticket is not very useful of course the search works, but there may be something special about how you use Nixnote, why it doesn't work for you |
Please tell me which test would be useful.
I have plainly noticed that notes matching my searched word are correctly
displayed by my evernote on android, highlighting that word, both in the
title and in the body, whereas Nixnote displays only one, sometimes none,
of those notes, yet other notes are listed, apparently not relevant notes.
Possibly they match my searched word in the attached pdf, i have not
checked, but why most relevant notes are missing?
thank you for your help

You may need to add some more detailed descriptions or screenshots. Without that, no one can reproduce your problem. But the other thing is: yes the search in Nixnote works fine, but it works a bit differently than in Evernote. But as there are almost no developers on Nixnote project now, changing how the search works in Nixnote doesn't seem to be realistic. Except you also find someone, who will implement the changes 😀 |
Where can I find instructions to use the nixnote search function?
How to search a word in titles and bodies and have notes sorted by date?
Thank you

Are the notes which contain the searched words indexed? |
Shouldn't plain text notes be automatically indexed?
How to check?
Thank you

No matter whether a note is indexed, you can always index it by:
If above steps cannot solve your problem, then additionally, just like Robert said, maybe you could provide the words you use in search and the note title which contains the words but is not displayed as the search result, to let us know what goes wrong. |
I also found that a string not found, but in the web client. |
Reindexing a note was successful: nixnote was able to find it.
Probably there are many notes to be reindexed. How could that have happened?
How to reindex all notes, in a single shot?
thank you

Under Edit - Preference - Search Tab, there is an option of 'Background Indexing'. It is disabled as default, you can enable it and restart nixnote. Then Tools - Reindex database will be showed, and you can index the database with one shot by clicking it. The text next to this option says it may cause issues on some systems, so I am not sure if it works for you. You can try it. |
Succeeded, the database has been reindexed, so now every matching item
seems to be displayed, as in the evernote android app. Thank you.
Probably my issue was due to the nixnote database, that i had deleted and
let to be rebuilt from the evernote server.
As a side note, possible improvements:
1) evernote prints the number of matches, nixnote does not
2) evernote highlights the searched word in its preview, both in the title
and in the few lines of the body below, while matches are underlined in
yellow rather highlighted, when viewing the entire note; nixnote highlights
matches, if displayed in the preview of the body, but not if displayed in
the title (whole title in bold face, as far as i can see)
3) string search, delimited by ", are underlined in yellow by evernote,
while nixnote does not highligh nor underline.
