  • Add an abstraction layer between file system and ranger's file system objects
  • Add ability to swap abstraction layer depending on the path
  • Integrate new abstraction layers, like ZIP, SSH, etc.
  1. Tighter XDG-open integration
  • Give the user the option to run different programs associated to a file type, if possible
  1. Tweakable user interface: Specify the content of status bars by setting a format string
