I am very impressed by your project. I am Kaushlesh Chandel and I am passionate about programming. Last year, a project I did won hackaday award. its called Boondock Echo.

This year, I started a project very similar to yours. its called SDR Dock I would love to join you on sdrberry project, and can contribute to the project. I am not an expert, but I can program and make things work.

Thanks for your interest, this was my covid lockdown project :)
Sure, you can fork the project and add functionality. Just let me know on what kind of functionality you want to work. But to start I would first focus on having a IDE up and running. There are several possibilities, I use VisualStudio with an extension called VisualGDB you need a license for this extension (Linux or Custom license). The cost is between 100 and 200 Euro. Of cause you can also use VisualStudioCode which is free and is able to cross develop (code on the PC and compile and debug on the pi)
Some items you can look at:

• user interface for FT8 and other digital modes. It is not fully developed. I still need to improve the look and feel. It is also more a design/requirement issue. What is a good way to make a FT8 etc QSO and makes it easy to use
• Support for optical rotary encoder direct on the GPIO currently I use a ESP32 as CAT interface but it would be nice to directly connect the optical encoder to the GPIO of the pi
• More easy GUI for configuring the use of I2C commands for rx and tx, now the commands are manually configured in the cfg file

Thanks for the response! Ill fork the library. Basically I want to use an ESP32 and attached controls with SDR Dock. I see you have built similar stuff. I want to use rotaray controlers, and some POT's ( Linear & Rotary ) to control stuff like Volume, Gain, Squelch, Bandwidth, etc. There will be some function buttons to change how each rotary switch works. Like... Rotary switch can change between HF bands.

Right now, I want to program ESP32 to pass data to Raspberry pi over i2c. However, I like your idea of using bluetooth. I want to build the GUI such that you can control everything wiht the buttons, and wont need to use the touchscreen. But that is a stretch goal.

For ESP32 you can look at ESP32Controler and ESP32BLecontroler repositories. In my tranceiver I use a ESP32 with 3 rotary controlers to do what you suggest. I use the CAT library to communicate through BLE or USB. BLE had some connection issues. Some times the ESP32 did not reconnect. Currently I removed the BLE part from Sdrberry, because it need more rework. But using USB is very reliable.
