IMHO having an ActiveSync functionality is key for an application like owncloud. We are researching the possibility to deploy owncloud in our small business but it would be used mainly with mobile devices.
Amongst others the energy (battery) saving aspect of push would be important for us. To keep halfway updated with calendar or task lists, a "pull interval" of min 30 minutes would have to be used, that means every 30 mins the device needs to wake up, establish a connection and check for changes. First test have shown that this a considerable battery hog.
Please consider picking up the (unfortunately) abandoned oczpush. Many thanks

THis would in fact mean that we could sync Owncloud Contacts/Calendar with MS Outlook???

That would open the gate for many companies who do use Outlook but want to use OC as well!!!

Any news here?

Nobody is working on this. Contributions are welcome :)
I believe you can use the Bynari Connector for Outlook http://www.bynari.net/

I was able to sync my calendar to Windows Phone with https://github.com/fmbiete/Z-Push-contrib
But there are some problems:

  1. The active sync protocoll does only support ONE calendar per person. In Owncloud a user can have more. The other calendars are simply not displayed.
  2. A SSL certificat is required. (For my Windows Phone a free startssl certificate works)
  3. I will be hard to integrade this to owncloud. The protocoll says that the service is allways under "myserver.de/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync". Ownlcoud can also be installed in subdirs. My solution was to create a subdomain "sync.myserver.de", but not everyone can do this.
  4. Z-Push has a lot of dependency packages

Maybe we can write a "as easy as possible to use" tutorial to install this (Maybe with contact support to)?

Hello,

i don't know if its relevant for you, but caldav and carddav are natively
supported in Windows 8 - computer or phone.

Stephane

Your info is absolutely correct. It is actually possible to sync ownCloud calendar with Windows Phone 8 (I guess, it does not work with WP7 :-( ). I can't find a link at the moment, but it is really simple to do the trick:

  1. Add a Google account to your Windows Phone 8 with a fake mail address and password
  2. Restart your phone
  3. Change the Google account to your ownCloud credentials and insert card-dav/cal-dav adresses at the bottom of the settings page.

Works good, besides a few things ;).
I did not find out after which time the calender is syncing it's data. New events are immediately added to ownCloud, but events added to the web interface are only shown after a certain time. And I also have problems with German "umlauts" which are not shown on Windows Phone. I think I'll open a case for someone investigating this.

By the way, never thought about battery issues. Did not notice anything. :)

@Ahn1 I think that active sync supports multiple calendars. See: http://liquidat.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/android-4-4-now-can-sync-multiple-calendars-via-activesync/

Anyways I would first concentrate the work on the main functionality of the app.

Please reopen in the calendar or contacts repository. Nothing for core from my PoV. Also very unlikely to get implemented, sorry.
