@WithSpan annotations in libraries

I'm using the auto-instrumentation agent in my application, which uses spring-boot-maven-plugin to package dependencies (my app is not a Spring Boot application, I'm merely using the Maven plugin in lieu of using the Maven Shade plugin).

I'm noticing that methods in a shared library that I've annotated with @WithSpan don't appear to be generating spans. This shared library is built and then included in the JAR of my application according to how the Spring Boot Maven Plugin packages these things. This involves the plugin setting up its own Main-Class entry in the manifest, where it sets up a ClassLoader instance that can load from the included JAR files.

I'm wondering if there's anything in this approach that might be causing the auto-instrumentation agent to be unable to instrument the @WithSpan methods in the shared library.

Ignore this. It ended up being a situation where our Maven POM dependencies on the OpenTelemetry libraries were incompatible with the version of the agent we were using.
