Comparisons
I did a quick comparison of monky with some other similar applications here. This includes:
- monky + ongybar
- xmobar
- i3status/i3bar
- conky Not included:
- monky + dzen
i3status + i3bar are surprisingly fast. They currently beat everything. Either for performance or for feature completenes. The downside being, that i3bar only works inside the i3wm and i3status having a rather special monitor set based on developer opinions.
Conky and xmobar are in the same category in speed. Conky has a slightly different goal compared to the other projects here though.
monky + ongybar performs on par with i3status+i3bar currently. The current way is going over dzen syntax, which is parsed in parts by the ongybar. I will redo the tests when I have proper binary protocol set up.
- i3bar/i3status is green
- monky/ongybar is red
- Conky/xmobar blue (though I have forgot to mark conky in one of them)
It's horrible. That's why. (it's embarrassingly bad if viewed in powertop. I don't want to admit to what I have been running).
