MAPS.ME supports Geo URI links but can't create them. It would be useful as a third option along with the other two coordinate reference systems.

e.g. geo:37.786971,-122.399677

example

How it can be useful? We got some requests in the past about other coordinate systems, but nobody asked to copy geo url scheme.

The standard is being adopted in many apps like Firefox and Chatsecure.

For example you can use it in a message like "Meet me at 14:00 here geo:37.786971,-122.399677" and be able to open it in any maps app on Android easily.

A better explanation here

I don’t see any harm in it, you are welcome to make a pull request with a change :)

geo: URIs are a great way to share locations on Android since basically every single map app understands them and accepts them by default. Now if only Android would make them clickable in all apps by default...
