It would be interesting to see if this is viable as a server-side renderer. If its comparable to mapnik in terms of performance/cost, it could be a good way to render tiles for clients that don't support WebGL. The other option is to write something to convert styles to mapnik xml.
There seem seem to be a bunch of opengl es node bindings out there, not sure if any of them are good.
