Hello! KnitScape-2024 is a design tool for slip and tuck colorwork knit patterns developed by Hannah Twigg-Smith as part of her PhD research at Machine Agency.

KnitScape-2024 is specifically the version of KnitScape described in this 2024 research paper:

Hannah Twigg-Smith, Emily Whiting, and Nadya Peek. 2024. KnitScape: Computational Design and Yarn-Level Simulation of Slip and Tuck Colorwork Knitting Patterns. In Proceedings of the 2024 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI '24). Association for Computing Machinery, New York, NY, USA, Article 860, 1–20. https://doi.org/10.1145/3613904.3642799

This version of KnitScape, KnitScape-2024 is a snapshot! There will be no updates to this software. For the latest in experimental knitting design and simulation tools by Hannah, go to https://github.com/knitscape

This wiki includes some basic documentation for how to get started in KnitScape-2024! Jump to:

We mostly use KnitScape-2024 to knit patterns on a manual knitting machine, specifically a SilverReed 840 with a SilverKnit interface. However, you can also export the knit patterns for hand knitting and for other (manual) knitting machines.
