Back button scroll-to-top slow, awful

I've disabled animations but still this even on a Pixel 2 is annoyingly slow and pointless. You can't override it by pressing back twice you have to wait until it gets to the top, and in my camera folder thats 2500 images.
Please undo this, it's superfluous to the app's operation and slows the whole nav down. I'm back to google Photos until this is out, sorry.

Furthermore, even trying to override the scrolling by pressing the back arrow doesn't work. Seriously, this has mad the whole app unusable for me :/

Uninstalled, sorry. This is such an unusable feature it's been impossible to use to any useful degree. Back when it's gone :)
