Hub windows

Hubs are special windows that display the submenu items with attached hub widgets underneath.

There are three types of hub window:

  • Submenu
  • Showcase
  • Classic

Submenu Hub

The submenu hub mimics the integrated library views by displaying the submenu items as a series of small buttons with an attached hub widget underneath.

Showcase Hub

The showcase hub more closely resembles the home screen by displaying the submenu items in the larger submenu widget style. Scrolling down to the hub widget transforms the showcase hub widget into a row style view. In addition to the hub widgets, the showcase hub also displays a fullscreen background widget above the submenu buttons.

Classic Hub

The classic hub uses the original hub style found in one of my other skins, Eminence, which introduced the concept of hubs to Kodi. The classic hub has a large landscape image of the widget item on the right with a list of submenu categories on the left.

Using the hub window

Each main menu item can have its own hub window. Using a hub window is as simple as setting the Action of the main menu item to open the hub.

Skin Settings > Customise Home Menu > Action > Common > Submenu/Showcase Hub

Configuring hub widgets

To set a default hub widget for all submenu items, add a hub widget to the main menu item.

Skin Settings > Customise home menu > Widget - Fullscreen and hub > Choose hub widget

Additionally, the fullscreen widget for the showcase hub is set in this dialog.

Each submenu item can also have its own individual hub widget that will be used when that particular submenu item is focused. Set these for the submenu items in the same way that you would set them for the main menu item - just first open up the submenu customisation dialog.

Skin Settings > Customise home menu > Submenu > Widget - Fullscreen and hub > Choose hub widget
