DIVE

GTFS Local Search

Welcome to the Dive wiki!

What is Dive?

Dive is a GTFS-based local search for finding things and places along bus routes. Currently, it is set up for the St. Louis Metro Transit System, a.k.a. Metro.

Dive is a fork of Jeremia Kimelman's "things-near-my-bus-stop" project and the "things-near-my-bus-stop-api" project, both of which Jeremia and the rest of "The Awesome Dive Team" worked on during the National Day of Civic Hacking between May 30 and June 1, 2014 with help from representatives from Metro, Open Data STL, and T-REX as part of the Build for STL event.

What's in a name?

The name "Dive" was chosen since the first thing we wanted to test this project on was finding bars along a bus route. Since a "dive" is another name for a bar, the name kind of stuck. It was also a better name that the intial names "GTFS_Search_Near" and "things-near-my-bus-stop" which were practically impossible to tweet about on Twitter. Not to mention, underscores and dashes are rather difficult to use on a Swype keyboard.
