Wisphaven is a voxel village defense game that is currently in development.
Written in Rust using the Bevy game engine.
Clone the project, have cargo installed, and run
cargo run --release
in the same folder as this file.
If you are developing, you can create .cargo/config.toml
with the following to improve compile times:
[target.x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu]
linker = "clang"
rustflags = ["-C", "link-arg=-fuse-ld=/usr/bin/mold", "-Zshare-generics=y",]
Cranelift does not work very well with this project at the time of writing.
- Infinite, procedurally generated world
- Saving/loading terrain
- Scuffed multiplayer (currently broken)
- Combat system with teams, knockback, defense, and multi-entity combatants.
- Modular item, block, and crafting recipe systems
- Several different enemy and weapon types.
Initially, this project was going to be a town building game, but I fell out of love with that idea. It's becoming more of an arcade survival game instead.
Right now, each night, there are waves of enemies that will attack you and try to destroy your "World Anchor". The World Anchor is a structure that keeps you (a wisp) tethered to the world, once it's destroyed, you will not respawn after dying. It's probably best to defend it.
On the agenda is:
- Friendly wisps (citizens) that will automate tasks and help you defend.
- Faster buildling mechanics
- More items and types of enemies
- Better crafting system. The current system has has poor discoverability and only works with blocks.
- Improved UI - world select screen, settings, better in-game UI and inventory management
- Proper multiplayer with support for headless servers
- Optimization - I've cut a lot of corners to increase development speed, so the game's performance leaves a lot to be desired.
I will be posting development updates on my YouTube channel
I am currently not looking for contributions, but I'm open to suggestions! Feel free to put ideas in the issues.
The project optionally uses my linting library, bevy_lints
. See the repo for more details.
