Ok, I know this one is taking it far,
but would it be a nice idea to have an API that would allow creating custom serial port or I/O port components? In my eyes this would make this software infinitely more extensible and useful than most simulators

As you probably can see from the lack of frequent updates to this respository, I'm not doing any work on it. That said, pull requests are welcome.
Also, you might be interested in atanua (http://iki.fi/sol/atanua/) which is basically "custom i/o port components" thingy. That project is also pretty dead, and open sourced.
