importing parts from admin interface - Cannot call get_descendants on unsaved Part instances

I can't create new parts from an import. When I export the parts list and add parts to the file I get the following error:

I can modify the database by exporting the parts list -> modifying the entries -> importing the list. I just can't create new parts due to the "unsaved part instances" error.

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi there @achirb2 please use the API or the UI importer for importing parts - the admin interface is in general not the right place to interact with InvenTree as a lot of safeguards are turned off there.

Will do. Is there any more up to date documentation I can read up on aside from what I'm finding on here: https://inventree.readthedocs.io/en/latest/settings/import/ ?

Go to Settings > Parts > "Part Import" section. You can turn it on in the UI to import parts from the part view, or do it directly there.

Option 2. Import part using Python library

https://inventree.readthedocs.io/en/latest/extend/python/#creating-new-items

Can do a small script to parse CSV to dict then import it straight into InvenTree.
