This issue was originally opened by @hanks as hashicorp/terraform#12446. It was migrated here as part of the provider split. The original body of the issue is below.


I just perform the normal terraform plan command and it crashed. The last time is ok, but this time is not.

@grubernaut / @catsby I requested (on Mar 13th) some more information to help us track down this error and didn't get any response

The line of code that this relates to is:

if attr.UserData.Value != nil {
			d.Set("user_data", userDataHashSum(*attr.UserData.Value))
		}

I believe we can add a guard clause in here to check that attr.UserData is not nil before we check the value

Would you be happy with this resolution?
