Now the first methods each access a field, while the only other method that doesn't comes after.
Its functionality has been subsumed by the new half-edge pair check.
In its old position, the function separated the definition of `ShellValidationError` from its impl block. Plus, in other parts of the code base, functions tend to be defined *after* they are used.
