Just adding that I am also experiencing this.
appears to be related to mass. I have removed the mass intergration, attempted to delete the hass entities for mass but no luck. |
Same error here with the music-assistant but I've never had it installed.
|
Worked a treat. Thanks for such a prompt solution @FriedCheese2006 |
I can't seem to find this file. Where is it located exactly? I am using Docker. |
I was looking for this too, on HAOS its /config/.storage |
Or more generally at the top level of wherever your config is (added: this worked great for me)

Had the same issue and never had music-assistant installed. Logger: custom_components.hacs [The repo id for music-assistant/hass-music-assistant is already set to 911125621] Restore Failed! |
Workaround for Docker variant:
|
The same issue on my side... |
Looks like an easy fix to those with Music assistant. Uninstalling it from the UI, then restarting HA will fix the issue. But definitely a bug that needs attention. |
I never had music assistant at any point (In HACS or HA) and had this problem; had to do the manual fix up above. |
Workaround worked for me as well. In case it helps someone, the specific steps I followed:
|
Im not able to replicate it myself. |
I went to the HACS integration under Settings, Devices & Services. There I searched for the Music Assistant service and then deactivated it. Then reloaded HACS. It works for me. Maybe it helps someone. Best regards |
The workaround helped me too for HACS. |
Thank you @FriedCheese2006 for quick hack solution. |
Having same issue and tried all the solutions here. Hacs won't start up because of Music Assistant, despite me uninstalling it and rebooting. I honestly can't find where you guys are going to find ~/.storage/hacs.repositories I have OS of HA on a Proxmox VM (transferred from Raspberry PI) |
You have to edit the configuration of file editor add-on: in yaml mode remove in
then restart file editor. Best regards |
Thank you, but I have nothing within ~/.storage/hacs.repositories so can't work out how @FriedCheese2006 solution |
Adding a note to @hugogithubs answer. If anyone uses Visual Studio Code plugin for HA (I do) you can do the same there too: Go to settings in VSCode and in the search bar type files.exlude. Then remove the line saying: **/.storage. After that, VSCode will show you the .storage folder. |
Did you get anyone to try this? I edited the file and don't have the backup (doh) to restore it to failing, or I'd try it out. It certainly looks like it would work. |
Not that im aware of yet. |
I've just edited and restarted, seems to be running at the moment after a restart! Thanks. |
Is there a way to regenerate the hacs.repositories file (i.e. a python script in the custom components, etc) so I can be back at default (and failing)? |
Looks like this is probably what is causing the conflict:
|
@ludeeus This fixes it for me. Now it logs the following but starts up anyway:
|
I’m using the Docker version, and after updating to the latest version, I noticed HACS was failing. When I checked the logs, I realized the situation was serious, so I reverted to the previous container with the old version. Unfortunately, HACS continued to have issues. Considering this, I figured it would be better to resolve the problem while using the latest version. So, I switched back to the new container. This time, HACS appeared in the side menu and loaded without any issues. However, all my installed repositories were gone. The custom elements/addons are still working though, so it is just the repo listing as 'installed' is missing. Following the instructions and searching for 'music-assistant' in @prestonsmartuk @UngluedChalice seems I have the same issue as you. |
Re-installed HACS, still had 1.33 installed, now it works with version 2.0.1. |
This does not seem to be related to the HA update... I am still on 2024.12.5 and restarted my HA a short while ago and encountered this. I had two entries for 'music-assistant/hass-music-assistant' in my 'hacs.repositories' file, as per PaulSD above. I simply edited out the one with the offending ID (911125621) saved and restarted HA... all is good in the world. No more errors logged at all. [EDIT] I am running HA in Docker... Cheers. |
Agreed, it's not related to 2025.1, it broke on 2024.12.5 (on HAOS) for me. Updated the kia_uvo integration in HACS and after restarting HA, HACS was gone from the sidebar and was throwing errors related to music-assistant. I removed the offending block from hacs.repositories and restarted HA and everything came back. |
Just FYI. I made these changes and rebooted and the error has been corrected. HACS now loads. Music Assistant as well as other integrations and dashboard items also work but they were working even thought HACS could not load. |
Had to revert back to 2024.12.5 as 2025.1 wasn't working for me even after deleting the lines in .storage. All seems to be working now so hopefully there is a proper fix soon so I can upgrade |
I also never install music assistant but the section for it was in hacs.repositories. |
Thank you FriedCheese2006 #4314 (comment) for the solution, now it's working again Thank you articool3222 #4314 (comment) I will never find it without your guide for VSCode |
I had both the python error and the music-assistant error..had previously researched music assistant but not installed. By the time I found hac.repositories it had none listed. |
Edited file as recommended. Rebooted HA. HACS now starts and error in Integration Dashboard is gone, however, several of the HACS services are not recognized. Icon also missing on left-bar menu. Music Assistant was never loaded on this installation. |
Holy moly what a nightmare this was, so much broke!!! This is NOT related to 2025.1.0 - I haven't updated yet (I wait for .1 releases) I simply rebooted my system today while I was doing some physical work on my rack and boom, HACS and everything that depends on it was dead. Had to hack out this music repository thingo and back in business. Nasty that something could be hardcoded and cause such havoc :( |
Fixed mine by removing the music-assistant segment of hacs.repositories file. I also have never used it. Seems to be standard. I expect this should be removed in future update. |
Newbie here.. Like day 2 newbie. Have HAOS running on Dell Optiplex 3050. Jumped on my browser, pointed it at HA (static IP) and noticed "Updates" so I did that first. Then after the restart I noticed no HACS in sidebar, under Integrations HACS shows errors and cannot reload without errors and I have the Roku Emulator integration which also shows errors. I have no knowledge yet on how to get into any configuration files to edit them. I do not have the music assistant integration installed.. I have rebooted the system and still no luck. |
Try not to be disheartened, this is NOT normal at all - in fact in my time using HA this is the first breakdown. So let me help you get sorted:
|
I was able to fix with the remedy below. Bit of a nuisance but easily fixed. My error was first noticed after a restart with no changes made to any code. I'm still on 2024.12.5
|
Thank you! It worked very well. One minor issue, a spelling error...
Should have been hacs.repositories It took me a minute to figure out what was wrong, but quickly noticed it. Otherwise, great instructions. |
thanks for the workaround. Worked for me. I had the same issue, has music assistant installed in the past but removed it a while ago. |
Worked a treat, thank you! |
This fix seems to have worked. Does anyone know how/why this happened, given that I hadn’t changed anything on my install and had woke up to every dashboard being broken? |
Got this even if I'm still on on 24.12 and never had music assistans installed. Logger: custom_components.hacs HACS is disabled - restore to remove music assistant from hacs.repositories worked. Hacs is starting again. |
Also not loading for me after unrelated restart 2024.11.3 |
I complete power off and restart fixed my Hac's. But issue with moskitto broker not handeling Zigbee2MQTT. |
For those of you that get here because of the title, update to HACS 2.0.2. For those of you that get here because of music-assistant related errors do one of the following:
