Take a look at config/application.yml.example
to see which kinds of API keys you'd need to have. Then, duplicate it into the file config/application.yml
so the app will be able to use its settings.
This project uses Docker and Docker Compose to isolate the development dependencies and generally make the application self-contained and easy to start hacking on.
See:
wget -qO- https://get.docker.com/ | sh
to install the latest version of docker
sudo su
curl -L https://github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/1.4.1/docker-compose-`uname -s`-`uname -m` > /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
to install docker-compose version 1.4.1
sudo su
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
to make it executable.
Follow instructions on how to add yourself to the docker user group by running sudo usermod -a -G docker ${USER}
You might need to logout and log back in; alternatively you can run exec su -l $USER
or sudo newgrp docker
You can then run docker-compose build
to build the image.
Prepare the database using
docker-compose run web rake db:create db:schema:load
for the dev dbdocker-compose run -e RAILS_ENV=test web rake db:create db:schema:load
for the test db
Use docker-compose run --service-ports web
to run the application (this is to enable the interactive debugging from guard-pry)
To update the project's bundle, you can run docker-compose run web bundle
to be able to use the bundle cache.
Running docker-compose build
will bust the cache and rebundle all gems. This might take a very long time but can be useful when the bundle cache is corrupted.
This project uses guard, guard-rspec and guard-rails to make TDD easier. If you're not running Docker Compose, you can manually start the guard watcher.
In your terminal:
$ guard
and it will show something like the following:
11:41:13 - INFO - Guard::RSpec is running
11:41:13 - INFO - [Guard::Rails] will start the default web server on port 3000 in development.
