In some cases it's useful to keep track of certain data but it doesn't make sense to store it in database.

For example:

New comments since the last visit
Hidden/shown conversations for every submissions Line comments expand when adding a new one #892
Saving unsubmitted input Opening another line comment box clears an already open one #848

It could be a plain old local storage or a fancy apollo integration.
