There are two incompatible filesystems for ESP8266/ESP32 - LittleFS and SPIFFS. LittleFS is the more modern filesystem and should be used by default. SPIFFS is supported for backwards compatibility when upgrading from older versions, but support will be removed at some point. If you know you need SPIFFS, use a firmware version with SPIFFS in the name.
