The latest version
zpaqfranz
resembles a rolling release.
You can find the "frozen" releases, which I consider to be essentially "possibly" functional, in the releases on GitHub, which are replicated on SourceForge.
They are usually of the type 60.7u
, where the main branch 60
has reached version 7
, with the u
patches.
Therefore, if you want to download a "fairly stable" version, get it from a release on GitHub or SourceForge.
There are also compiled executables available, typically not the very latest versions, found on the GitHub homepage.
These are for "strange" systems, like Synology, and so on.
The file zpaqfranz.cpp
(inside GitHub) can be, and generally is, more up-to-date than the latest release.
This means changes have been made that are fairly stable but not sufficiently tested.
So, if you download zpaqfranz.cpp
(from GitHub), you will get one of the latest working versions.
Then there are the "relle" which is the self-update channel (zpaqfranz update
), and these can be more up-to-date than the releases on GitHub.
Finally, there’s the very latest version, which may very well not work at all, and it can be found at http://www.francocorbelli.it/zpaqfranz.cpp.
Lastly, there may be pre-releases attached to GitHub issue posts, which are temporary versions that I provide to users upon their request.
And, to top it off (!), sometimes I send debug versions via email to those who point out specific issues (!!)
I realize that this can introduce bugs (and, in general, this happens) due to a very short update cycle.
There isn’t, in fact, a Long-Term Support (LTS) version.
On the other hand, I am an advocate of kaizen, meaning continuous improvement of the software.
If you don’t feel comfortable using the very latest versions of zpaqfranz
, you can always volunteer as a beta tester and help me out 😄
