A friend posted a cheeky msg that contained a fictional html tag as a way to say hello to their community, see the screenshots below:

I believe the Mastodon UI captured the correct intention here, which was to have a message displaying the tag as plain text. I totally get how it might be tricky to both support html tags and not strip invalid tags, I mostly just wanted to bring this up to other people's attention. If anyone has a strong argument to not support this, feel free to close it 😊
