add the usual copy button in the place of the red markers:

  • copy event id
  • copy room id
  • copy decrypted source if available
  • copy raw source

@t3chguy since matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk#8278 only fixes this issue partly, do you want to reopen (and perhaps rename, to keep this context) or open another one?

Hi @t3chguy, I'm working on the copy button and before I commit anything I was wondering if you'd prefer it to look like:

copy

  • this using <AccessibleButton> + some CSS to style it

  • more like this using <CopyableText>

I'm just now getting around to test this and I didn't realize earlier in the PR screenshot:

I'm surprised that the text boxes aren't full width regardless of the content, i.e. surprised the decrypted isn't as wide as the encrypted in this screenshot.
I think it would ever so slightly be better UX if it always was full width, but I admit it's really nitpicky.

Another nit: in above mockup the buttons are also accessible while the item is collapsed. Idk if that would actually save someone the click to expand but nice to have if you do.

I don't think this is great tbh, blind copying would never come in handy to me personally

Unless current behaviour changes, the main use would be copying encrypted body without looking at it. But yeah not too likely you need that.
